The five families of Lemuridae only live on the great island, of
which they are consequently one of the national emblems.
Related to the primitive primates, these prosimians pursued a
parallel evolution to the monkeys, favored by the
geographic isolation of the island. Diurnal or nocturnal depending on
species, they feed on fruits, leaves, and sometimes insects.
The lemurs on the photos could be approached easily in parks,
where they were half-tame and accustomed to human visitors.
Those were even given a banana at the entrance, to attract the
lemurs...
